Meta Open Arts x Bellevue Arts Museum presents a special online workshop commemorating Day of Remembrance and the legacy of WWII incarcerated Japanese-American farmers. Join California-based farmer and activist Kellee Matsushita-Tseng for a creative workshop exploring seed sovereignty and cultural preservation. Seeds are living beings that contain the wisdom of our ancestors, stories of our communities, and the creative potential for our futures. Through story sharing, writing and planting, you’ll explore the role of seeds as a tool for community health and resilience.

This program is created in partnership with artist Michelle Kumata’s large-scale artwork Emerging Radiance: Honoring the Bellevue Japanese American Farmers at Bellevue Arts Museum and Meta’s Spring District campus. Kellee Matsushita-Tseng is a Yonsei, 4th generation queer japanese-chinese american, living and farming on unceded territory of the Awas-was speaking Uypi-tribe, currently stewarded by the Amah Mutsun tribal band. Kellee works with Second Generation Seeds, a collective of AAPI farmers and organizers focusing on preserving, improving and breeding crops significant to Asian American communities.

This event is free and open to the public. Details to sign in will be emailed to registered attendees the day before the workshop. Registration ends February 15.
