About the speaker
Sukhie Patel is a printmaker, educator, community organizer, and sole proprietrix of Saparia Press. She is on the leadership team of Partners in Print and the board of directors for Seattle Print Arts. Drawing from her family’s legacy of running politically dissident and anti-colonial print shops, she has an affinity for handset type, wood engraving, collographs and wood cuts. Sukhie is a letterpress teacher and is passionate about public art and literacy education, especially amongst marginalized communities. She believes printing—with its roots in labour and industry—should always be an accessible tool of the people. Born in India, and raised between East Africa, the Pacific Northwest, and the UK, Sukhie calls upon her diasporic South Asian experience to inspire possibilities for intersectional, collective movement.
