Reading Dance is an opportunity to explore the creative process of dance and film. Join choreographer Eva Stone, dancer/choreographer Simone Elliott, and videographer Péter Dániel Matkaicsek as they discuss their dance film collaboration that will be presented as part of the virtual CHOP SHOP Contemporary Dance Festival in February 2021. The artists will discuss the craft of choreography, filmmaking, and how the two work together. The lecture serves to demystify and reveal the creative process behind contemporary dance films and investigates the ways that choreographers and videographers collaborate.
Eva, Simone, and Péter will discuss the process of creating the film, explore the movement language used in the choreography, and take audience questions.
Reading Dance is open to all ages and abilities.

Freelance performer and choreographer, Simone Elliott was born and raised in the Pacific Northwest. After fifteen consecutive seasons performing in theaters across Europe, Simone’s career has provided her the opportunity to work with well-known choreographers such as Crystal Pite, Mats Ek, Johan Inger, Nacho Duato, Jiri Kylian, Mauro Bigonzetti, Felix Landerer, Yuki Mori, Marina Mascarell, Fabien Prioville, Ihsan Rustem, Guiseppe Spota, and Stephen Thoss. She attended renowned ballet schools such as Boston Ballet, the Goh Academy in Canada, and the Tanya Pearson Academy in Australia. Simone studied at the Tanz Akademie Zürich and upon completion, accepted her first contract in Austria at Tiroler Landestheater. She then continued on to Die Theater Chemnitz, Staatstheater Nürnberg, and most recently Theater Regensburg where she also has created her own works for the company.
Péter Dániel Matkaicsek studied at the Hungarian University of Dance Arts. After his studies, he worked in various theaters around the world as a professional dancer in USA, Japan, Czech Republic and Germany. Throughout his career he had the advantage of discovering and experiencing different individuals and cultures, as well as various artistic expressions and approaches. From an early age, this exposure allowed him to develop a sense of visual and musical aesthetic that formed him and fostered his curiosity about the world. He appreciates the stimulating possibilities of visual story telling as a form of powerful artistic communication and wants others to be as moved as he is by the wonders of life and the creativity of the human mind. Péter has already created a number of movement-based visual art films—several trailers for Theater Regensburg and Unterwegstheater Heidelberg, as well as other projects for various artists around the globe.
