Bellevue Arts Museum is proud to host the 2007 Passing the Torch: Washington Statewide High School Jewelry and Metals Exhibition. Passing the Torch is a juried exhibition of metal sculpture and jewelry open to high school students from across the state of Washington. This celebration of youth creativity and craftsmanship will be in a Museum setting for the first time ever, providing the students with a rare opportunity to validate their efforts on a professional scale and share their work with the community at large.

The fifth annual jewelry and metal sculpture exhibition is sponsored by the Seattle Metals Guild and is open to all Washington State High School students. Founded in 1989, the Seattle Metals Guild is a non-profit organization that strives to educate and support the jewelry and metal arts community of the region. For more information visit www.seattlemetalsguild.org.

Prizes are awarded to first, second and third place for the best work by students in both Jewelry and in Metal Sculpture, as well as three honorable mentions in each category. The quality of the work accomplished by these students is truly outstanding. This exhibition gives an opportunity to see the work of the next generation of metalsmiths and their expressions of creativity. The quality is a reflection of the high level of teaching that takes place in these schools. The purpose of this exhibition is to focus on the students who are interested in creating with their hands. Prior to the Awards Ceremony on May 19, the participants will tour Pratt Fine Arts Center, University of Washington Metals Department, and North Seattle Community College Jewelry Department.
