| A new large-scale installation by Toronto-based artist Ed Pien is now on view at Bellevue Arts Museum. Comprised of five interlocking cylindrical structures of varying scales, the installation combines hand cut and tinted paper with a video and sound element. Structurally, the installation is reminiscent of a compound or small community ensconced in a wooded area. Images of wild and tangled vines cut into the outer most layer of the paper wall, delineating the boundary between the installation and gallery space, while the stylized vines allude to veins and arteries coursing through the human body. A forest populated by silhouetted birds, evoked by the intricately cut paper, is also seen.
