The Art of Discovery (Formerly known as the Northwest Art in the Schools Program) |
The Art of Discovery (formerly known as Northwest Art in the Schools) is a program developed and presented by the Junior League of Seattle in collaboration with Bellevue Arts Museum. It provides an extraordinary opportunity for elementary school students to interact with original artwork from the Junior League’s stunning Northwest Art Collection. The Art of Discovery is currently traveling to multiple eastside elementary schools. If you would like to receive information in September regarding the 2008/2009 Art of Discovery program, please email Info and include your name, school, and district.
|
| The Workshop |
| Presented by Junior League members, this workshop is designed to give teachers and PTA docents, information and training to introduce the art to school children, Kindergarten thru 6th grade. At the workshop, each participant will not only view the art but will receive multi-sensory approaches to use when instructing children in small class settings. A teaching packet will be provided. |
| The Artwork |
| The Junior League will loan certain artworks from their Northwest Collection to the participating schools. Each school will have the artwork for one week. A new selection of artwork will be used for the program this year and will include work by northwest artists such as: Dale Chihuly, Paul Horiuchi, Morris Graves and George Tsutakawa. The artwork is placed in “easy to move” crates with wheels for transporting between the schools. Insurance on the artwork is covered by the Junior League of Seattle. |
| Transportation |
| You are responsible for transporting the art to your school by school district vehicle or rental vehicle. To facilitate the coordination of the travel schedule for the artwork, schools in Lake Washington and Northshore School Districts will be in Track 1 and all other Eastside Elementary Schools will be in Track 2. |
