Student Wednesday
Students of all ages are encouraged to visit Bellevue Arts Museum on the 2nd Wednesday of each month where they will receive complimentary admission to the museum with an online coupon. Additionally, the new Teen Art Council will be coordinating teen specific activities during each Student Wednesday.

Breakfast with BAM: Beyond the Norm - Varying Perspectives of Art, Craft and Design
Come have breakfast with Bellevue Arts Museum on the third Tuesday of each month; we provide the coffee and you provide the conversation. Meet with your fellow art and craft enthusiasts to discuss contemporary craft and the current exhibits displayed at the museum.

February 16: We will discuss the varying functions of art and craft. Most often art is designed to stir emotions and inspire conversation. In this class go “beyond the norm” and discuss the global and political nature of John Buck’s work.

March 16: We will discuss the exhibit Beth Levine: First Lady of Shoes. As the first successful female shoe designer, she went “beyond the norm” in a field that was traditionally dominated by men. Come explore her creativity through her innovative design of shoes.

April 16: We will discuss the exhibit Lisa Gralnick: The Gold Standard, in which the artist explores thought provoking ideals of value, currency, and economy as well as the relationship between personal value and sentimental value.

May 17: We will discuss Eyes for Glass: The Price Collection and the variety of glasswork and how it provides an overview of the Northwest studio glass scene.

Making BAM Tick: Lunchtime conversations with museum curators and staff
Bellevue Arts Museum offers a new lunchtime series every third Thursday of the month. Hear from curators and other staff members as they offer an inside glimpse into the Museum’s inner workings.

Join artist, Jamie Bennett at INDULGE for an enlightening walkthrough of the exhibition, Edge of the Sublime: Enamels by Jamie Bennett, which presents a first-ever retrospective of works by one of the most important enamellists working today.

Film: The Art of Block Printing
Block printing is a centuries-old art form still widely popular today. In John Buck: Iconography, you can see the skill and mastery of one of the Northwest’s foremost artists. This film covers some of the “how did he do it?” questions as it walks viewers through the basics of creating block prints.

Symposium: Design Matters
Building on the new exhibition Beth Levine: First Lady of Shoes, Bellevue Arts Museum presents a symposium offering a thorough look at all matters of design. Speakers will cover history, culture and process as well as offer specific examples of two of the twentieth century’s major designers.

PRESENTERS
Nora Atkinson
Introduction, Beth Levine: First Lady of Shoes at Bellevue Arts Museum
Nora Atkinson is Curator at Bellevue Arts Museum after serving as Exhibitions Curator for the past three years. She holds an MA in Museology from the University of Washington. She has contributed scholarly essays to exhibition catalogues and curated several exhibitions at Bellevue Arts Museum including The Book Borrowers: Contemporary Artists Transforming the Book.

Pandora Neiland
If the Shoe Fits.....the historical relevance of footwear in society
Pandora Neiland teaches Fashion Design at Seattle’s International Academy of Design and Technology. Along with over 25 years in the fashion industry she has been teaching at the college level for over 5 years and enjoys it tremendously. Her courses include History of Fashion Design and Trend Analysis.

Harmony J.K. Arnold
Process: In the Mind of the Designer
Harmony J.K. Arnold is Assistant Professor of Costume Design & History as well as In-Resident Costume Designer at Seattle University’s Department of Fine Arts. Harmony works as a freelance Costume Designer and Stylist for stage, film and print. She received her MFA from the University of Oregon and her BS in Fine Arts (theater, dance, drawing) from Western Oregon University. With over 12 years of experience, Harmony’s focus is on generating new works. Designs to date include one east coast premiere Off-Broadway production, ten west coast premieres and twelve world premieres.

Helene Verin
Beth Levine: A Case Study of an American Shoe Designer
Helene Verin is an award-winning designer of shoes, rugs, wallpaper, pillows and tiles, and her work has appeared in countless books and publications. She is an adjunct professor at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City, where she lives. Recognized as the expert on Beth Levine, Verin has a collection of more than 180 pairs of her shoes and an exhaustive archive of her work.

Paula Rees
Sara Little Turnbull: The Mother of Invention
Paula Rees is founder of ForeSeer, a multi-disciplinary design firm based in Seattle since 1979. She holds a degree in fine arts with a background that includes printmaking, textiles, graphic design and theater. Paula is best known today for master planning and building powerful urban environments. What makes Rees' work unique is her skill in bringing together top-notch teams of master collaborators – from screenwriters and linguists, to designers, architects and cultural anthropologists. Her projects are well-recognized destinations stretching from Sunset Blvd. to Barcelona.

Are you creative, fun, and artistic? The Teen Art Council is a place for high school students to meet, design, coordinate and create teen and student events at Bellevue Arts Museum. The Teen Art Council allows for thoughtful and fun exploration of art and craft, develops creative potential, and ignites a long-lasting passion for the visual arts.

Family Day: Celebrate Earth Day!
Join Bellevue Arts Museum for an afternoon of art projects and artist demonstrations celebrating Earth Day with the themes of recycling and reusing materials. Several local artists will be on hand demonstrating how they recycle objects into new and usable works of art.
